As we approach the end of the year, there are several points to remember regarding your 2022 healthcare benefits and looking toward 2023.
A few deliberate actions will help you avoid costly mistakes.
- If you have met, or are close to meeting your deductible, schedule doctor visits and procedures before the end of the year. Your deductible will renew in January, so if you receive these services in 2022, your out-of-pocket costs will be lower.
- If your health plan includes a deductible for prescriptions and you have met or are close to meeting it, fill all eligible prescriptions before the end of the year. Your out-of-pocket costs will be lower.
- File claims for services received from out-of-network providers. Health plans have a timely filing limit (typically 6-12 months), which requires you to submit a claim within that time frame for it to be considered. Often the provider will give you an itemized statement at the time of service that needs to be filed with the claim.
- Open all mail from your health plan, there may be important information regarding your 2023 Healthcare Coverage. This includes changes to your coverage for next year, as healthcare benefits and out-of-pocket costs usually increase each year.
